The Library lends material to its members. The right to borrow is personal and may not be transferred to another member or user of the Library. Borrowed material remains the personal responsibility of the borrowing member until it is returned.
After locating the item, the member presents it to the Circulation Desk. Material is borrowed through the Library's automated system and the borrower's membership card is required. The date of return for each item is written on a special card that is attached to the item, so that the borrower knows when he/she must return it.
For more detailed information, read the Lending chapter (p. 6) of the Lending-InterLibrary Loan Policy (in Greek).
In special cases, when the presence of the borrower in the libraries is not possible, the loan can be carried out upon request of the member.

Returns
All users are required to return the items on the predetermined dates and in the condition in which they received them. The return of the items is completed once the Library receives the material and checks its physical condition. If the item is returned damaged or is lost, it must be replaced by the borrower.
Reminders of loans that are about to expire
To prevent overdue returns, the Circulation Desk sends an automated reminder to the users the previous day of the due date. In case of late return, the Circulation Desk sends users a reminder up to 2 times, starting from the day after the loan period has expired.
Borrowers have the exclusive responsibility and obligation to return the borrowed material on time, regardless of whether they received a reminder.
Renewals
Loan renewal, i.e., extension of the loan period, is allowed depending on the user category, the type of item and for a period of time according to the provisions in the table above.
Renewals can be carried out without presenting the item to the Circulation Desk, as well as by phone. In case the item has been reserved by another user, renewals cannot be carried out.
Reservations
If a user wishes to borrow an item, which is already borrowed by another user and there is no other copy available, they have the right to make a reservation by contacting the Circulation Desk.
Upon return of the item, the Circulation Desk notifies the user who made the reservation, in order to borrow it. If the same item has reservations by several users, priority order is respected by the system. The number of items which each user is entitled to reserve at the same time is shown in the previous table.
