All organizations should strive to protect the environment through sustainable development. This includes all kinds of libraries, which can play an active and significant role in sustainable development».

A green and sustainable library is a library which takes into account environmental, economic and social sustainability.

 

Topics for papers to be submitted:

1.  Environmental sustainability

  • Green buildings and equipment: Carbon footprint. Green Office Principles. Historic buildings management.
  • Sustainable library services: Easy access for users to relevant and up-to-date information. Shared spaces, devices and environmental education. Library procedures efficient and environmentally sustainable.
  • Environmental management: Commitment to general environmental goals and programs (e.g. UN Sustainable Development Goals, Paris Climate Agreement).

2.  Social Sustainability: Diversity, Equality, Inclusion

The Library should promote the representation and participation of individuals-groups with different characteristics in terms of age, races and nationalities, abilities and disabilities, gender and sexual orientation, culture, religion, skills.

  • Creating a suitable environment in the Library and in the workplace.
  • Information literacy - Digital skills and Digital Citizenship.
  • Lifelong learning - Distance Library services.
  • Social inclusion and user participation.
  • Reader / User Communities - Library Reading Policy.

3.  Sustainable economy: Challenges & Opportunities for Academic Libraries in the post-COVID Era

The challenges and opportunities are undoubtedly many, especially in the post-COVID era, in which often appear in addition to problems and new opportunities for communication, information, library management.

  • Sustainable economy: Restrained consumption. Circular and sharing economy practices.
  • Collaborations and synergies between Libraries.
  • Open access policies: Empowerment and new data.
  • Institutional publishing activity models and the role of libraries.
