Libraries have always been community and educational spaces created to provide access to resources and immerse their users in new technologies. Case studies in academic and public libraries have shown the need to create spaces with digital laboratories for their audience that will function as spaces for innovation and education. The creation of 3D printing services is one such example that turns libraries into state-of-the-art technology hubs and gives to their communities access to tools that have a significant impact in areas such as medicine, architecture, engineering, healthcare and others. The inclusion of 3D printing services in libraries seems natural due to their unique space, the tradition of their collaborations and the accessibility they provide.
The University of Piraeus Library since 2020 participates in the program funded by the European Union: "3D Printing Support Services for Innovative Citizens - INNO3D" - (3D printing support services for users of the University of Piraeus Library. The aim of the project is to improve the services provided to library users by developing basic skills in 3D printing. At the same time, the Library in recent years supports students with disabilities as it has a workstation with the necessary software and support materials.
This article intents to inform the audience about the benefits of INNO3D project and the relevant outputs produced by the Library so far. These results concern either the general public such as training seminars for 3D printing or the special public such as the printing of tactile braille signs, tactile map and other auxiliary material for students with learning difficulties to be able to participate equally and without restrictions in the "life" of the university community and in the individual actions that take place during their studies.
