To promote the exchange of classical literary works between China and the West and to deepen scholarly dialogue in this field, the Institute of Literature of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Chinese School of Classical Studies at Athens co-hosted an international academic conference titled "The Formation of Classical Literary Works in Chinese and Western Civilizations" on December 4-5, 2025, at the Chinese School of Classical Studies at Athens, Athens, Greece. The conference was jointly organized in collaboration with the China Association of Chinese and Foreign Literary Theories and attended by the Director of the Institute of Literature of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Dean of the Chinese School of Classical Studies at Athens.

 

On December 4th, the director of the Hellenic Sinology Center and holder of the UNESCO Chair at the Ionian University, Professor Katsios Stavros took part in a dialogue-style "roundtable forum" with the participation of two Greek professors and two Chinese professors on "The Aesthetic Value of Chinese Literary Classics and Greek Literary Classics." On December 5th 2025 the main event aimed, through comparative analysis of classical literary works and their underlying principles in both Chinese and Western civilizations, to enhance mutual understanding and learning. It also explored shared philosophical, historical, and cultural perspectives embedded within the classical literary traditions of Eastern and Western societies. The presentation of the director of the Hellenic Sinology Centre was titled “Guardians of Memory: Digital Threats to Classical Literary Transmission in Chinese and Western Traditions.”
