Libraries are called upon to respond not only to the community needs for information but also to identify and embrace global trends and developments. Sustainable development is a great challenge for humanity and libraries can play an essential role in creating collective awareness for this purpose.

In order to effectively support sustainability, libraries seek to improve and facilitate the acquisition of knowledge, skills and values through lifelong learning by aiming to raise public awareness of the Sustainable Development concept and goals as set out in the Agenda 2030.
The SDGs in Europe often involve changes in lifestyle and personal habits. The Cyprus University of Technology, as a pioneering university in terms of sustainability, participates in various sustainability networks and synergies and adopts a series of actions, which are related to and respond to these global challenges.

The presentation will outline the University's sustainability actions and highlight the realization of this vision through the academic library performance. Emphasizing the long experience of academic libraries in quality assurance, the paper aims to examine ways of reorganizing a library in order to operate on the Sustainable Development principles and the factors that determine the interaction with the community to which it refers. Finally, the Library attempts to lay the foundations for the transformation of its function by composing a Sustainability Report correlating the library's actions with the SDGs.
