Η International Cartographic Association Working Group on Digital Technologies in Cartographic Heritage σε συνεργασία με το Εθνικό Κέντρο Χαρτών και Χαρτογραφικής Κληρονομιάς και το Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης οργανώνει στη Θεσσαλονίκη στις 18-19 Μαϊου 2006 το 1ο Διεθνές Εργαστήρι με θέμα "Digital Approaches to Cartographic Heritage". Θέματα που κυρίως θα συζητηθούν είναι:

-Transformation into digital form of old maps, globes and other cartographic documents.

- Applications of digital techniques to the cartographic study of the metric and thematic content of old maps.

- Digital tools to assist map-curators, to aid the networking of map libraries and to allow access to cartographic heritage.

- Digital support for the preservation and restoration of old maps, atlases and globes.

- The use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for teaching and diffusing history of cartography to the general public.

Ειδικού ενδιαφέροντος θέματα:

- How modern ICT could contribute to solve problems relevant to the map-collectors’ needs not only as far as the digital archiving is concerned but also to issues related to the transmission and the visualization of the map collections in the world-wide-web and in other media and/or multimedia, including screen readability.

- The evaluation of the social and cultural impact of cartographic heritage among the young and the general public.
